100 Mile House Fire-Rescue and the District of 100 Mile House would like to encourage all residents to prepare a plan to minimize the effects of a disaster. An emergency or natural disaster can happen at any time without warning. The best defense is to BE PREPARED.

You can't plan for the unforseen
If I don't have a disaster I've wasted my money
The government will take care of me right away

Are YOU Prepared?

Are you prepared to take care of yourself and your loved ones in the event of a disaster?

Are you prepared to take care of your household for a minimum of 72 hours?
Do you have at least 72 hours worth of drinking water and food safely stored?
Do you have a basic survival kit for each member of your family?
Have you conducted a Home Hazard Hunt?
Does your family have a reunion plan?
Do you have the means to prepare meals if the power is out for extended periods of time?
Does everyone in your household know how to turn off home utilities such as water, gas, electricity?
In a sudden power failure can your household quickly locate a battery operated flashlight and radio?
Do you have a fully stocked first aid kit?
If you have children in school do you know what plans they have developed for protection during disasters?
If a disaster struck in our community have you determined how you will signal for assistance?
Do you know where your local reception center is?

If you answered NO to any of the above questions now is the time to better prepare yourself and your family to ensure everyones safety. DISASTERS HAPPEN! PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE!

Emergency Social Services

ESS provides short term assistance to British Columbians who are forced out of their homes due to fires, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies.

The 100 Mile House ESS Team is committed to helping those affected by emergencies throughout the South Cariboo and other neighbouring communities. Our role is to help people during a very difficult and stressful time in their lives. WE ARE THE "PEOPLE" PART OF EMERGENCY RESPONSES.

Do you want to be an ESS volunteer?

ESS volunteers are people committed to the wellbeing of others. There are many rolls that volunteers can help fill within our team;

Registering evacuees
Connecting family and friends
Providing Food & Lodging
Allocating resources and support at Reception Centres
Scheduling tasks and people

Emergencies can happen at day or night throughout the year. ESS Volunteers should be flexible, responsible, accountable and physically and emotionally capable of handling the demands placed on them during emergencies.

ESS teams are required to handle sensitive, confidential information and therefore we will ask for personal references and clearances before you start.

How do you become an ESS Volunteer?

Fill out the ESS Application form
Obtain a criminal Record Check (no charge to ESS Volunteers)
Drop off your completed application package at the 100 Mile House Fire-Rescue station at 385 Horse Lake Road

Home Survival Plan.....Make One!

Before you can prepare for a disaster you need to familiarize yourself with the Hazards in your community. 100 Mile House is a small community with limited resources surrounded by natural grasslands, large forested areas, a major highway, natural gas pipeline and railroad. With all of these factors to consider there are risks of Wilfires, Hazardous Material Spills and Natural Gas Leaks. A severe winter storm could also cause a major power outage or telecommunication failure. Do you know how to prepare yourself for such disasters?

The Goverment of Canada has compiled WWW.GETPREPARED.CA , a detailed web site full of information about what you can do to prepare yourself for a disaster.

The Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) is a division of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Emergency Management BC. PEP works with local governments year round, providing training and support before, during and after emergencies.

Wildfire Planning

100 Mile House Fire-Rescue along with the District of 100 Mile House have been working diligently on a Wildfire Interface Management Plan (16,800KB 88 Pages) to help reduce the threat of a wildfire to our community.
